A traditional Sri Lankan manna knife with a broad, heavy chopping blade and a riveted red-stained wooden handle. It is built for the rough work a kitchen throws at it — breaking down pumpkin and jak, splitting coconut shell, chopping bones, ash plantain and stalks — where a slim cook's knife would simply flex or chip.
