A heavy cast aluminium athili — a deep, round-bottomed pan with two cast lug handles — for frying, tempering and simmering curries over gas or firewood. The thick walls hold heat well, so it suits sweetmeat frying, deep-frying and big-batch cooking as much as everyday home use.
